Emily is coming back!!!!!!!
Oh this evening, I had a wonderful surprise, Emily sent me a message, to ask if she could come back. Apparently her new job was so awful (she started today) that she gave in her notice immediately. She'll tell me all about it on Tuesday when she comes to clean!!!

Now I know Emily and she has the patience of a saint and can cope with almost anything, so it must have been really bad for her to say that she was leaving straight away. So really it's their hard luck and my good luck.

The two who came to take over the job of cleaning for me were very nice, but it was more expensive and they only stayed 3/4 hour as it was the same as one hour and a half, but with two of them!!! They charged more than Emily too. They were lovely people and were willing to do anything I needed, but it's not the same as having someone who can virtually read your mind and knows exactly how you "tick". I realised that Emily had been here almost 4 years, so I've given her a rise - boy is she worth it!!!!

So it has been a lovely day, even though I watched the Queen's body being taken from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. She will lie in state until her funeral on Monday and people can file past her coffin to pay their respects. There are thousands of people already queueing up to see her. If I lived nearer and could stand for a long time, I'd go there. So I'll just have to watch it from my home and say my own "Bye Ma'am and thank you".

Well, that's a pleasant surprise. I'm very pleased for you & Emily.
Hope all goes well, as I'm sure it will.

I know my father "got on" very well with some of the carers who looked after him, but sadly one or two were less than excellent and timekeeping could be difficult. I had to complain about one of them smoking in the house, even after being asked [told] that smoking was not permitted, after that they kept their habit to their car !

I wasn't expecting to be able to watch that procession, as an old friend was planning to call into the workshop. But they came this morning and I was able to get home just after lunchtime.

Sometimes things work out well, and at other times they definitely do not, and the past few days have been mostly in the later category. I'm hoping that things will go better after today.
At least my blackberry jelly has consented to set properly. A couple of years ago I ended up chucking a load away as it refused to behave - even with added pectin and extra sugar.

Oh I've managed to make Orange Curd before, as well as marmalade. I haven't managed to make jam yet - I've got so much fruit frozen that I really must try and do something with them - maybe try jam??? I'm so happy for you that this latest batch of blackberry jam behaved itself.

When I told her that I was going to give her a rise, she said "Are you sure? Can you afford it?" It's only an extra £5 a week, so I'll make sure that I can afford it, she's worth it

Lovely photo. So glad Emily is coming back. The raise will make it sweeter too and help with her gas costs.
They haven't broadcast much about the queen really. Then again I try not to watch the news so may have missed it.

Oh I certainly don't mind an extra £5 a week - she's so worth it and if I can get my Carer's Allowance sorted out, I could even raise that more.

Some of the channels over here broadcast it 24/7, showing the people waiting to walk past the coffin to pay their respects. So far there have been queues of almost 10miles and people are waiting for over 12 hours. Absolutely amazing, but when asked they said they just wanted to say thank you to her for giving us 70 years of work and care.
