About the natural things in my life

As a child many things were taken for granted
The parents
the life - the play

1932

the clothes - the apartment - the food
the school - the learning
1938

Even the war was.
It was just there.
I hadn't been asked,
if I wanted him.

I was 8 years young - the war came to me
in the form of a bombing raid on July 15, 1940.
A bomb fell in the garden.
I experienced at first hand - life was threatened
threatened daily

My father became a soldier in 1942
he was 40 years old.
In 1944, he was captured
by July 1945
Being a soldier and captivity
were self-evident.

At home, the threat was from the air
of course.
The threat lasted five long years.
1940 and 1944.
there have been two bomb attacks
on our city.

I enjoyed the end of the war
The daily threat of bombs had finally come to an end.

On Easter Day 1945 the 'Americans' moved in.

The outer peace was again
of course.

From May 1945 to the currency reform in 1948
I was very rarely satisfied, like many others.
Not getting full was self-evident

At about 6 or 7 years old
I asked my mother:
Where do we get the money?
She said - your father earns
the money through his work
which we can buy with
what we need.

But it was getting less and less
A leather school satchel
cost on the black market in 1946
600 Reichsmark.
I still have the leather bag today.

The devaluation of money was
of course.

Only after the currency reform in 1948
money had a new value.

Work and money
were once again taken for granted.

I grew up - could study
had a job.

Still, sometimes life was no longer...
so naturally.
I was very ill several times - had accidents.

1972 I got sick with the parrot disease - ornithosis
For one week I had a fever of 40° C.
Fortunately, there was a cure for the virus.
a drug.

My wife died of cancer at 56.
So life is not so natural after all.

3 wisdoms are now self-evident for me

" Enjoy the day "
" It is better to light a light -
than to grumble about the darkness "
"There's nothing you can do in two days
- Yesterday and tomorrow "

I have survived everything
I enjoy every day.
Sometimes the warming sun shines -
sometimes a cold wind blows.

Life taught me:
" It's not always obvious
But if you want to be
NOW
you can take for granted,
then rejoice for the rest of your life "

gratefully enjoy
Health and life
