The Year Ahead in Gaming
I haven't been able to watch any of the E3 conferences this year, but that hasn't stopped me about thinking of the year ahead in gaming as I piece together what I see others talking about.
I do hope on being able to get a PS4 by the end of 2015. I have an work-anniversary gift card coming in later this year, which should pay for most of the cost of a new system.

So, E3 is a good time to talk about what I am looking forward to, although not everything may have been covered during E3. The biggest game I was interested in since the PS4 launch was Infamous: Second Son. Not much else had really gotten me excited to pick up the new Playstation... but knowing what lies ahead has changed my mind!

What I am excited for:
Batman: Arkham Knight - I played the first two Arkham games (skipped out on Origins) and had a tonne of fun with both, as most people did. So there's no question about wanted to get my hands on this one, especially with Rocksteady back in the driver's seat... of the Batmobile... which is finally drivable in the game!

Star Wars Battlefront - The first Battlefront game was my first PS2 game, and is probably very close if not at the top of the list of PS2 games I spent the most time with. I loved the sequel as well, and am glad to see the series return. Why Hoth is appearing in the game-play footage they wanted to show of is a bit understandable and confusing. I mean, Hoth was already in the first two, not to mention other Star Wars games. I'm thinking we've been over this ground enough already. I get that it's a monumental ground battle in the Star Wars universe, but that didn't really leave me feeling like I saw something new.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - The original Deus Ex fits in my top 3 games ever, and I enjoyed Human Revolution quite a bit. So I'm ready to head in to a new game with enthusiasm; I just hope this sequel turns out better than Invisible War did.

Transformers: Devastation - I never really watched the show growing up, or watched the comics, or played with the toys (I was a GoBots kids when it came to vehicular robts). No, it was oddly enough my oldest son that got me interested in Transformers when HE started playing with the toys. From there I've tried out many Transformers games, and more often than not I had fun with my time playing them. But with Platinum Games developing this one?! Okay, sure they had a couple duds like Mad World and Korra, but I think they still deserve the benefit of the doubt in their ability to put out some extremely fun entertainment! And if Vanquish 2 does turn out to be a thing, you can believe that title to appear on this list as well.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst - So many sequels on this list... oh well. The first Mirror's Edge tends to have a love-it-or-hate-it reputation, and I fall into the category that enjoyed playing it. And like I said in my review, it screams for a sequel... and here it comes!

Doom - Hooray! I love Doom. Doom 3 was okay, but I didn't get into it like the original. Thankfully they seemed to have made changes in all the right places, based on the preview footage anyway, and this is an FPS that looks like it will be so much fun! The only thing I would change, is that the enemies still need a bit of a color-palette enhancement, but that is definitely nitpicking at this point. Doom is coming back, and it seems to be coming back in a big way!

What I should be excited for, but am not really:
Dishonored 2 - I enjoyed the first game but I didn't feel like I needed a sequel for it. I'm sure it will be solid, as the first game was, but I'm not sure I'll be rushing to try it out.

Ratchet and Clank (Re-visioned) - A new old Ratchet and Clank game is due out next year to go along with the movie. I love the original R&C series (definitely a favourite PS2 series of mine), and there were a couple of good outings on the PS4 (most notably for me A Crack in Time), but there were also a few that did not hold my interest, and made me feel like Insomniac was running out of ideas. Going back to the beginning to kind of make a new game, but only sort of, doesn't inspire me too much. I'm quite content with all those other sequels coming out that I've noted above, but a sort-of-a-remake isn't hyping me up.

The Last Guardian - Probably the saddest title that I'm not excited for, at least not anymore. Yeah, when TLG was announce... I dunno, what... 6 years ago... yeah I was excited then. But after all the delays (which often doesn't bode well for a product like this), and with the game-play that was shown, I'm just not feeling it anymore. Nothing of the game-play looked particularly spectacular, and I'm worried that the constant calling and coaxing of your bird-dog is going to go on through the entire game. I mean, I hope it doesn't take long for this animal stop hesitating at every jump you ask it to make for you because that is going to slow things down an awful lot. It also feels like they were trying to push a cinematic feeling in lieu of game-play. I don't want a movie-like experience, I want a game that's fun to play. Perhaps I'm just bitter they made us wait so long.

What do I just not care about:
Uncharted 4 - I played the first game, wasn't inspired to try the second one, and couldn't muster any attention when I saw commercials for the 3rd. Not much has changed for the forth. Granted I haven't seen anything yet, I haven't bothered to look up what was shown at E3, but I'm also not motivated to do so.

Final Fantasy 7 remake - Never played a FF game, and likely never will. I don't have anything personal against it, it's just not my thing. Running off of my R&C comments above, if this remake (and only "if", because really what do I know) is the best thing (according to popular demand - if that is where it's coming from) to come out of the series in, what, 9 years, and they've already lapped #7 in sequels, then what does that say? Maybe I have it all wrong, but to me it says that this should be THE FINAL fantasy.

Shenmue 3 - Again, I never played this series so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. Isn't Shunmue that game that's often gets credited with popularizing quick-time-events in action games as we know them today? That right there should be enough of a condemnation. ;)
