10,000 Photos
I hit a rather large milestone today: my 10,000th photo uploaded onto Ipernity! I hope everyone has enjoyed my digital power line photos as much as I have enjoyed taking them over the past seven years.

Here's the "big picture" (my 10,000th one):

My 5,000th photo:

And my first one:

It's been an interesting journey so far, having captured electric power transmission and distribution from eighty utilities in over twenty states and provinces in North America!

I should take a tally of my archive - I probably have almost as many.

That is a lot of photos!! I don't think I've even shot half that amount of total pictures for all subjects. With ipernity being stable now, and they haven't deleted my account, I might start uploading some more pictures here, since I still have 100's of old pole and pole line shots.

Keep up the good works!

I am optimistic about the future of Ipernity. It looks like a good, dedicated group of users has now successfully taken control of the site after much effort, and recent reports indicate that the site is financially in the green.

The membership rate may be higher than what it was before, but I like making financial contributions to help maintain independent, community-operated sites that aren't subject to sudden arbitrary changes with no user input (Flickr in 2013 comes to mind), and are also not part of any massive technology companies that involve themselves in governmental affairs.

I am glad, though, that I made backups of my photos on Flickr during last year's scare. I also have full archives of all of my photos on two separate hard disks and a Microsoft cloud storage drive. The December 2017 Ipernity scare reminded me of the inherent fragility of digital data, and the work I must do to curate and preserve the digital images I have created.

That being said, while I have not uploaded as many photos as usual this winter/early spring, I have been undertaking considerable "behind the scenes" activities to go through my pre-existing photos and improving their keywords/descriptions to make them easier to search to prevent further growing pains as their number inevitably increases.

I am looking forward to a productive summer where I can further expand the enormous project we all have undertaken together: to photographically preserve the history of North America's electric power infrastructure. When I look in the Powerline Graveyard group, I am reminded of how much would be gone forever if not for our efforts.

Hello, I just want to say that I'm really happen that you are putting so much effort in preserving all your photos and continuing to upload more amazing shots of the few ancient poles that are also being close to being replaced. Your are preserving history and I think it is wonderful. I have not been on Ipernity as much lately but plan on being on more now.

I thank you very much for your kind regards. I am quite pleased to see that you have enjoyed my pictures. I think I've gotten to enjoy collecting pictures of insulators more than the insulators themselves, as the photos show what they were originally doing! So far, we all as a group have preserved over 2000 poles (now in the Powerline Graveyard) that have been replaced through our photographic efforts. I think that is a noble accomplishment!

I'm a distant second to be sure, with 5428 uploaded, but in terms of archived pics, I have a total of 9354 pictures (Xcel - 3000+, OTP 2400+, public power ~2000, rest 1800+).

My first picture uploaded is this one, but it somehow shifted position in the stream: www.ipernity.com/doc/ndlinegeek/15171859
